FAQ about our Exams

  • 1.When does the next exam take place?

    The Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu offers exams for its students at the end of each course cycle. Additional exams will be regularly offered for ALL students (incl. non GZK students) on the levels A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1. These Exams will be held on 3 Sundays per month.

  • 2. How much does it cost?

  • 3. Internal? External? What is the right exam for me?

    Internal exams are being conducted within the framework of the course operations of the Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu. Hence, only GZK-student are eligible to register.

     

    External exams are available for ALL persons who wish to take an authorised German Exam. Hence, everybody is eligible to register!

  • 4. Do I have to pay my fee in EURO?

    NO! All exams fees will be paid in Nepalese currency! The final price in Nepalese currency will be calculated in accordance with the respective exchange rate of the Nepal Rastra Bank at the time the registration starts! Please find the respective currency converter here!

  • 5. How do I register? 

    To register for a your exam you have to

     

    –> follow our Social Media channels for more information about the the time and date for the registration

    –> fill out the respective online form! The online form will be made available via our Facebook presence!

    –> upon successful registration visit the Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu (see point 6)

     

    Please be aware that registration for non GZK students is being done on a ‘first-come-first-serve‘-basis!

  • 6. I successfully registered online. What do I need to bring to the GZK?

    Congratulations. Now all you have to do is visit us and provide the following:

     

    –> 2 passport sized photos

    –> photocopy of your citizenship ID or passport

    –> bank voucher | proof of payment

     

    PLEASE DO NOT PAY THE EXAM FEE UNTIL YOU GET CONFIRMATION FROM THE GZK TO DO SO!

  • 7. I have successfully registered but want to give my seat to a friend ... ?!

    That is unfortunately NOT POSSIBLE! Exam seats are not transferable in any case due to official regulations.

  • 8. I am ready to take my exam. Do I need to present an ID @ the exam?

    YES! On the day of your exam at the Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu it is absolutely MANDATORY for examinees to present their ORIGINAL Citizenship ID | Passport or National ID which includes a current photograph of yourself.

     

    The ID has to be presented before the beginning of the exam and/or at any other point as necessary or on demand. Please note that Driving Licenses or similar forms of identification (e.g. photocopies of such documents or digital copies) WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
    PLEASE NOTE: If your original passport or citizenship ID is @ the German embassy, please inform the Embassy in advance via email. The Embassy will provide your passport or citizenship ID for the day of your exam!

  • 9. I failed my exams or one module. Can I retake the exam? How many times?

    Yes! You can retake the exam or any module as often as it might become necessary. Please also see our section about exam preparations.

  • 10. Can I take my exam online?

    NO! At this time there is no possibility to take an (acknowledged) exam online!

     

    >>> Please be aware that any such offer in the internet does have no or limited validity with respective authorities in Germany!

  • 11. How can I keep up with all the latest information and schedules?

    Please find actual and comprehensive information about our classes, exams and cultural activities on our Website, our Facebook– and Instagram presences and on our Youtube channel!

  • 12. For how long is my German Language Certificate valid?

    Your certificate is valid indefinitely! However, most institutions, authorities and/or universities regulate their own requirements. As such the validity can be anything from ‘not older than 6 months to … 10 years’.

  • 13. I passed my exam. I am ready. Does the Goethe-Zentrum help me to apply for a job or study in Germany?

    Unfortunately that is where our services reach their end. We, the Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu will get you ‘in shape’ to go to Germany but we do not have the ability to aid you in any application process.

    However, we do strive to provide you with a maximum of information on your way. Please find here a video containing detailed information about your way to study in Germany:

  • 14. I studied at the Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu - but failed my exam. How can I re-register for another exam.

    Once you have failed an exam your are considered a ‘non-GZK-student’.

     

    You can re-apply at any exam date provided for non-GZK-students.

     

    PLEASE NOTE: You will receive the discount for GZK-students in case you next exam will take place in the course of the next 12 months after the end of your course. Such discount is ONLY VALID for an exam at the same level as the failed exam!

  • 15. I failed my exam but I need a certificate of participation with my score. What do I do?

    If you failed your exam you are eligible to obtain a certificate of participation stating you overall score. To obtain such a certificate you have 2 choices:

     

    1. Please contact the reception and ask for such certificate.
    2. Please contact our Department of Exams directly via

    exam@goethe-kathmandu.edu.np

     

    In both cases the Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu will provide you with the respective certificate.

     

  • 16. I failed my exam but I have reasonable doubt that the result is accurate. I what Do I do?

    You have the right have your exam re-evaluated. In such cases please contact the Department of Exams at the GZK directly:

     

    exam@goethe-kathmandu.edu.np

     

    PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU FAILED YOUR EXAM THAT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THAT YOUR EXAM NEEDS TO BE  RE-EVALUATED. PLEASE MAKE SURE THERE IS REASONABLE DOUBT FOR SUCH REQUEST.

  • 17. I do have feedback about the procedure and conduct of my exam. Which person do I contact??

    In case of perceived flaws of procedure during the exam that may violate the exam guidelines of the Goethe-Institute you shall contact the Department of Exams at the GZK directly via email:

    PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE EXAM GUIDELINES OF THE GOETHE-INSTITUT.

  • 18. I have just taken my exam and am waiting for the results. When can I expect the results?

    The Goethe-Zentrum Kathmandu strives to provide you with the results of you exams in a timely manner. Results will usually be published at the premises of the GZK as follows:

     

    A1 & A2       After up to 1 week

     

    B1 & B2       After up to 3 weeks

     

    C1                After up to 3 weeks.

     

    The results will be published on the public pinboards on the premises of the GZK. The GZK will inform about the publication of the results via posts on its Social Media channels (Instagram & Facebook).
