A1 – Beginner

In the A1 exam, you will need to know familiar, everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs. You are able to introduce yourself and others and ask questions about personal details – e.g. where someone lives – and know how to answer questions of this kind. You can communicate in a simple way when interlocutors speak slowly and clearly and are prepared to help. 

 

Ideal if you’d like to …

– apply for a position as an au pair in Germany

– obtain evidence of the language skills required to be granted a visa to join your husband or wife in Germany (for information on exceptions, please visit the website of the German Embassy Kathmandu)

– prove that you have successfully reached level A1

– be issued with an official and internationally recognized certificate

A2 – Elementary

In the A2 exam, you need to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. personal and family information, shopping, work, local area). You know how to communicate in simple routine or familiar situations. With the A2 level, you know how to describe your own background and education, environment and things related to immediate needs in simple terms. 

 

Ideal if you’d like to …

– demonstrate that you have a basic knowledge of German

– prove that you have successfully reached level A2

– be issued with an official and internationally recognized certificate

B1 – Intermediate

With the B1 level, you understand the main points regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. You know how to deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling and how to express yourself simply and coherently on familiar topics and personal areas of interest. By obtaining the B1 level, you can explain experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and give brief reasons or explanations for plans and opinions. 

 

Ideal if you’d like to …

– attend a preparatory course (Studienkolleg) to qualify for admission to university in Germany, vocational education / internships / voluntary services

– live and work in Germany

– prove that you have successfully reached level B1

– be issued with an official and internationally recognized certificate

B2 – Upper Intermediate

In the B2 level exam, you will be introduced to complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in a field of specialization. You know to speak with sufficient fluency and spontaneity in order to hold a normal conversation with native speakers. In this level, you know how to express yourself clearly and in detail on a wide range of subjects.

– prepare to study at a university or institution of higher education in Germany

– provide evidence of your advanced German skills for a job application

– prepare to work in the medical field in Germany

– provide evidence that you have successfully passed Level B2

– hold an official, internationally recognised certificate

C1 – Advanced

As a C1 student, you can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and grasp implicit meaning. In this exam, you will need to express yourself fluently and spontaneously and know how to use the language effectively in social and professional life or in training and study. With the C1 level, you can express yourself clearly, in a structured and detailed way on complex subjects.

– prepare to study at a university or institution of higher education in Germany

– demonstrate a very advanced knowledge of German for employment purposes

– prepare to work in the medical sector

– prove that you have successfully reached level C1

– be issued with an official and internationally recognized certificate
